Despite the developer’s history of high-profile partnerships, another one being formed was low on the list of what gamers expected from Square Enix’s promise of an exciting reveal today. Instead of Final Fantasy anniversary news or the announcement of a sequel to one of Square’s many successful series, however, gamers got an even more thrilling announcement - Square Enix is teaming up with Marvel, and the partnership is being formed to developed a series of Avengers games called the Avengers Project....

Bravely Default: Brilliant Lights was a single-player mobile RPG that plays similarly to its console brethren, retaining the Brave and Default mechanics to use actions. While this free-to-play game contained in-app purchases, it didn’t use gacha mechanics for its characters, but for the weapons instead. There is also a premium currency known as mythril, which can be used to buy costumes and characters from past Bravely Default games. Despite having a strong start with 4 million users within its first two weeks, services will be shut down early next year....

That said, 2020 was a bit of a mixed bag for Square Enix. Final Fantasy 7 Remake finally released in April to critical and commercial success, and Nier: Automata hit a new sales milestone three years after it released. On the other hand, the publisher also released Marvel’s Avengers, which was weakly received and played a part in the company losing over ¥6.5 billion in 2020. During the event, a reporter with IGN was able to get a look at Final Fantasy 15 when rendered using Nvidia’s revolutionary new video card. Not only was there more more detail present in the game – millions of blades of grass weaving in the wind, the fur on a nearby cat that bit more fluffier, etc. – Square Enix director Tabata Hajime also feels that it will also draw players deeper into the game:...

In a lawsuit filed Feb. 5, Stillman claims the blockbuster reality program was part of an “unlawful and fraudulent” scheme. Just before 10 p.m., pedestrians in Times Square panicked after hearing a loud sound. Though it turned out to be a motorcycle backfiring, scared people ran away from the area, escaping into stores and businesses. Twitter user @DanielsGrp recorded video of people running from the sound. “People fleeing and hiding from #timessquare after suspected live shooter #NewYork we caught this from our hotel bar 10th floor #police confirmed this was not a live shooter #timessquare #NYC,” they wrote....
