Spotify Is Hosting Its Own Virtual Concerts
In a post on For the Record, Spotify announced that it is hosting five virtual concert experiences across the end of May and June 2021. In partnership with producer Driift, Spotify will organize these virtual concerts as ticketed experiences.
Each virtual concert will be a 45-70 minute event, where the artist will perform fan favorite songs. Spotify says it has organized these “performance-style experiences” as a way to connect fans with their favorite artists.
Spotify said that these five shows “strengthen the commitment” to connecting artists and fans, and “create a unique performance opportunity that creators and listeners are sure to love”. After also announcing a lossless music feature for later in 2021, Spotify clearly holds this commitment very highly.
What Concerts Has Spotify Arranged?
Spotify will host these five prerecorded events weekly between May 27 and June 24:
May 27: The Black Keys, recorded in Blue Front Café, Mississippi June 3: Rag’n’Bone Man, recorded in the Roundhouse, London June 10: Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff, recorded on a city bus journey June 17: Leon Bridges, recorded at the Gold-Diggers hotel June 24: girl in red, recorded in Oslo
Tickets to each event can be purchased from Spotify’s dedicated live site for $15 (plus tax). Spotify will stream each event at different times for time zones across Asia, Australia, Europe, and America.
In order to watch each stream, users will need a Spotify account. However, Spotify encourages those who don’t currently have an account to sign-up when they purchase tickets. Existing users can purchase tickets now, but will also receive a notification for events Spotify personally recommends a week in advance.
It’s unclear if Spotify will host any more of these virtual events in the future. These five events could end up as the first of many if successful, or as live music returns Spotify could decide not to host more events. Regardless, Spotify has created another unique experience in the world of music streaming.
Spotify Is Tiding Music Fans Over Until Live Concerts Return
Of course, virtual performances can’t replace the feeling and experience of in-person music concerts. But Spotify is making an effort to tide music lovers over for the time being with these virtual events.
These concerts can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home, and will certainly be a unique experience in one way or another. Just try not to wind up the neighbors too much!
