Spotify Unveils an Enhanced “Your Library”

Hailed as a more organized, streamlined way to browse and find your content, the new Your Library makes it easy to navigate a collection of music and podcasts in one place.

Out of more than 5,000 hours of content that gets released on Spotify every day, hundreds of hours of those are saved in the Your Library section. “We know it’s crucial to be able to quickly find what you’re looking for, jump back into your latest discovery, or rediscover a beloved track you saved years ago,” reads Spotify’s announcement.

There are four main changes to look forward to—better sorting options, new dynamic filters, content pinning, and grid view. These features, along with the refreshed layout, should make browsing your favorite music and podcasts much easier than before.

The changes are rolling out starting today to all mobile users on iOS and Android.

New Features in Spotify’s “Your Library”

When browsing a song/podcast collection, you can take advantage of the new dynamic filters to temporarily hide content that doesn’t interest you. Feel free to choose between album, artist, playlist, or podcast to see the audio you’ve saved that matches.

Spotify subscribers who tend to listen to music or podcasts in offline mode will especially appreciate a “Downloaded” filter that lets them view all downloaded content at once—anything on that list can be selected to play even without an internet connection.

For even better organization, use the new options letting you sort saved Spotify music or podcasts in the Your Library section alphabetically, by recently played, or by creator name. Moreover, anything you’ve liked can be now browsed visually in the new grid-based view with large-tiled album, playlist, and podcast cover art.

And should you happen to listen to any particular album, song, or podcast over and over again, you can pin it for instant access. You can pin up to four playlists, albums, or podcast shows to the top of the interface.

Just swipe right on an item to reveal the hidden “Pin” option.

Spotify Is on a Roll

The Swedish company has definitely been on a roll lately.

It just reported strong results for the March 2021 calendar quarter with 158 million paid accounts and 208 million people using the ad-supported version Spotify. By comparison, Apple Music surpassed 60 million paid accounts in June 2019, but the company has since remained quiet on the number of subscribers its music service now has.

Spotify has also launched paid podcasts to rival a similar offering on Apple Podcasts, adding a new way for creators to monetize their podcasts. At the same time, Spotify has increased the subscription price of its Premium Family plan—and as a result, unintentionally made the Apple One subscription bundle more tempting.
