Chandimal sustained damage to his digit while representing Colombo in the SLC T20 League and will not be fit to feature in the United Arab Emirates later this month.
Niroshan Dickwella has been promoted from the standby list and will join the 16-man squad that will seek to reclaim the Asia Cup crown from India.
Chandimal only featured in the one-off Twenty20 international during South Africa’s visit to Sri Lanka, having sat out the rest of the series following a suspension for acting contrary to the spirit of the game in the second Test against West Indies in June.
Sri Lanka begin their Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh in Dubai on September 15, before taking on Afghanistan in their other Group B match in Abu Dhabi two days later.
